Today at approximately 2:45 PM, volunteers on the Sonoma County Search and Rescue Dive Team located a body in the water off Sunset Beach. The body was that of an adult male clothed in a shirt and shorts. The body was about 20 feet off-shore of Sunset Beach in about six feet deep water. The water temperature was about 59 degrees.
The male was described as physically consistent with the missing person, Marvin Jones. The team sent down an underwater camera for close-up photographs of tattoos on the body. The photos matched with those described on Marvin. Based on the location, description and time frame, Deputies on-scene were satisfied with identifying the deceased as Marvin Jones. They notified family his members.
The body was removed from the water, then transported to the county morgue by a Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Detective. An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the cause, manner and approximate date/time of death.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office thanks all the local volunteers on our SAR Team who assisted in the search for Marvin Jones. We appreciate the help from the SAR Teams Marin, Napa, San Mateo Counties as well as the CARDA dogs, in bringing closure.
