Muncie Man Arrrested on Warrant

Muncie – Last evening around 6 p.m. a Meth Suppression Trooper was pulling out of the Wal-Mart lot on the South side of Muncie when he observed a white male walking across the parking lot. The man looked at the fully marked police car, and suddenly took off running across the lot and into a nearby gas station at 1401 E. 29th St.

The trooper went inside the station to speak with the man, and other officers arrived for assistance. Investigation revealed the man, Claude E. Smith, age 47 of Muncie was wanted on a Delaware County warrant for Failure to Appear for the original charge of Theft.

As officers spoke to Smith his family members, who had been shopping in Wal-Mart, pulled into the gas station to pick Smith up. A Muncie Police Department K-9 was walked around the outside of their vehicle. As a result of that search and ongoing investigation, further charges and arrests could be made in the case after lab analysis and prosecutorial review.
