The International Association of Chiefs of Police and Motorola Honor the Redwood City Police for Project Safe Program

Today, Chief JR Gamez and Deputy Chief Gary Kirby were present at International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference to accept recognition on behalf of the Redwood City Police Department as a finalist for this year's Webber Seavey Award. The IACP and Motorola have selected the Redwood City Police Department as a result of the Department's successful work at Sequoia Station under the Project SAFE program. The Department was selected as one of 25 finalists worldwide. Jointly sponsored by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Motorola, the Webber Seavey Award is presented annually to agencies and departments worldwide in recognition for promoting a standard of excellence that exemplifies law enforcement's contribution and dedication to the quality of life in local communities. As a result of this award, the many strategies used to make Project Safe a success will be shared with other law enforcement agencies across the globe, and serve as a template to other organizations facing similar policing concerns at their transit hubs. We are very proud that our Department has received this international honor and appreciative of the efforts of the police officers, business owners and community members that helped to make Project Safe a success.
