Pomona Police Continue Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Campaign
During the month of September, the Pomona Police Department continued its efforts to address and educate drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians on personal safety and rules-of-the-road. Pomona Police Officers began enforcing behaviors and actions that are dangerous and could lead to collisions.
19 drivers were issued citations for failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. Over 170 pedestrians received citations for walking on the roadway in a hazardous manner or crossing streets or crosswalks when they should not have done so.
Over 200 bicyclists were issued citations for operating their bicycles hazardously. This behavior included operating their bicycle against the flow of traffic, dashing out onto traffic, failing to stop at stop signs or red lights and other moving violations. In addition, 222 citations were issued to bicyclists for equipment violations. The majority of these violations included bicycles not equipped with brakes, reflectors or lights. These violations puts the bicyclists and the public in danger because the bicyclist cannot stop or be seen.
The Pomona Police Department will continue its efforts to reduce collisions and injuries to everyone who travels our roads. You can contact the Traffic Services Bureau at 909-620-2081 for more information regarding pedestrian and bicycle safety.
