One Airlifted following Crash

Ripley County: This morning one person was airlifted following a two vehicle crash on S.R. 101 south of Penntown. According to Trooper Clifton Elston, at approximately 7:30 this morning a 1999 Ford Escort driven by 81 year old Richard Gould of Sunman was southbound on S.R. 101. A 2010 International semi tractor with a flatbed trailer driven by 48 year old Kenneth Sanders of Shoals, IN had pulled into Lykins Construction on S.R. 101 and the driver was asked not to pull onto the blacktop portion of the property. The driver backed out of the driveway to readjust his vehicle to avoid pulling onto the blacktop and the trailer of the semi was about four feet out in the southbound lane when the Ford Escort struck the trailer. Gould, who suffered back pain and a possible fractured elbow, was airlifted to University Hospital in Cincinnati. Sanders was not injured.

No charges have been filed but the crash remains under investigation. Tpr. Elston was assisted at the scene by other troopers, Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, Sunman Fire and EMS, and Indiana Department of Transportation.
