10/25/2014 press release: Motor Vehicle/Pedestrian Accident
On October 25, 2014, at 0937 hours, the Burlington Police Department responded to the parking lot of the City Market, located at 82 S Winooski Ave, for a pedestrian that had been struck by a motor vehicle.
There were numerous witnesses that gave similar accounts to include observing a vehicle being driven by Joseph Manley, 32, of Burlington back up from his parking space at the City Market and striking Peter Banks, 71, also of Burlington.
Banks was transported to the Fletcher Allen Emergency Room with non-life threatening injuries. It is believed that Banks was standing behind Manley’s vehicle in the vehicle’s “blind spot” when he was struck. There are no indicators of Manley being impaired or being distracted by technological devices. Manley reported he was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident and was backing up slowly.
The Burlington Police would like to remind operators of vehicles and pedestrians to utilize extreme caution when walking or driving in parking lots.
