Press Release

The following individual was charged today in Madison County Circuit Court with three felony counts of CHILD PORNOGRAPHY, according to Madison County Sheriff Robert J. Hertz. The subject is identified as:

AGE: 71

On June 13th, 2014, investigators with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Computer Crimes Unit received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children of online activity potentially associated with the sexual exploitation of a child. The activity was provided to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the form of a Cybertip from an online electronic service provider. Investigators were able to link the online activity to the address of 16 Glen Hollow Rd., in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
On June 19th, 2014, members of the Forensic Computer Crime Unit of the Sheriff’s office along with Glen Carbon Police, and member(s) of the F.B.I Cyber Crime Task force arrived at 16 Glen Hollow Rd. and located the homeowner, Dennis Hettenhausen.
Investigators developed enough information to seize computers from the residence believed to be associated to the online sexual exploitation activity. A search warrant was obtained for the media seized from the household. The Madison County Forensic Computer Crime analyzed the media seized from Hettenhausen. Through information gleaned from the forensic examinations and interviews conducted, investigators developed enough information for a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office for applicable charges.
The facts of the investigation were presented to the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office on October 24, 2014, who authorized charges for three counts of child pornography. The felony warrant and information was presented to the Honorable Judge Richard Tognarelli, who set Hettenhausen’s bond at $75,000.00. Hettenhausen turned himself into police authorities on today’s date, October 24th, 2014, around 1:00 p.m. and posted cash bond. As of this point in the investigation, there does not appear to be any identified victims in the area.
