Police Arrest Carjacking Suspect for Oakland Homicide

Oakland, CA —On October 23, 2014, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Bennie D. Williams, 26, of Oakland with the murder of Mr. Warner Willis, 78, who was killed Sunday, October 19, 2014, in the 1400 block Chestnut Street.

Background: On October 19, 2014, about 9:16 PM, Oakland Police officers responded to the 1400 block of Chestnut Street on a report of a stabbing. When officers arrived on scene they discovered victim Willis had suffered multiple fatal stab wounds.

Investigators believe Mr. Willis was killed sometime before 4:00 PM. Besides being charged in Mr. Willis’s death, Williams has been charged with two carjackings that occurred in Oakland after the homicide. Mr. Williams was arrested in Berkeley, by the Berkeley Police Department, for a third carjacking.

This arrest resulted from investigators working closely with the Berkeley Police Department and the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
