Press Release for Major Traffic Collision on 10-21-14 at Newton and Madison Streets 
On October 21, 2014, at approximately 8:52 a.m., officers from the Torrance Police Department responded to a major injury traffic collision in the intersection of Newton Street and Madison Street.
On arrival, officers discovered that a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic had collided with two juvenile pedestrians at the intersection of Newton Street and Madison Street. The initial investigation indicates the Chevrolet Sonic was making an eastbound turn onto Newton Street from southbound Madison Street when it collided with the two juvenile pedestrians who were crossing northbound in the east crosswalk. One of the pedestrians, a 5-year-old male, sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition. The second pedestrian, an 11-year-old female, was also injured and transported to a local hospital where she is listed in stable condition. The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the collision and alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
The intersection of Newton Street and Madison Street was closed to all traffic for approximately two hours during the investigation.
This collision is being investigated by the Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division under the command of Captain Rod Irvine, Commander of the Special Operations Bureau.
