Master Trooper Voorhees Promoted to District Squad Sergeant

Lafayette- Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter, promoted Master Trooper Matthew Voorhees to the rank of Sergeant to serve as a district squad sergeant for the Lafayette Post.

Sergeant Voorhees is a native of Crawfordsville and a Crawfordsville High School graduate. After graduating high school, he attended Wabash College where he received a degree in English and American Education. Voorhees spent two years as a reserve and jail officer for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department before he was accepted into the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. In 1999 he was appointed as a trooper and assigned to the ISP Post in Peru, where he served the citizens of Cass County.

Voorhees voluntarily transferred to the Lafayette District in 2000 where he worked Montgomery and Fountain Counties. During his career, Voorhees has served as a Field Training Officer, Assistant Commander of the Tactical Intervention Platoon, member of the Clandestine Lab team, instructor for Standard Field Sobriety Training (SFST) and Traffic Incident Management.

In Voorhees spare time he has been a baseball coach throughout Montgomery County for fourteen years. He has also been a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Eagles, American Legion and Indiana State Police Alliance.

Sergeant Voorhees and his wife Buffie reside with their two daughters Jesika and Ashlynn in Montgomery County.
