Summary:
The victim received a telephone call from telephone #119999992112. The caller represented themselves as a rental car agency. The caller stated the victim’s son rented a car in Las Vegas, NV and he had been involved in a traffic collision. The caller stated their son needed the victim to send a total of $3,500 for required repairs on the car. The caller directed the victim to obtain “Money Pak” cards for the payment. The victim agreed and obtained the money in Money PaK cards. The caller called the victim back later in the day and inquired if they had gotten the Money Pak cards. The victim indicated they had and provided the cards’ serial numbers to the caller. The victim later learned they were a victim of a scam. After further follow-up on the telephone number, it was determined that the suspect’s number has previously been reported as a fraudulent number that has been used in previous frauds across the country. Citizens are encouraged to telephone the Petaluma Police Department if they receive any type of suspicious calls.
