DATE/TIME: October 20, 2014

INCIDENT: CVC 2800.2 Evading Peace officer and PC 496 Possession of Stolen Vehicle

LOCATION: Cedar Ave/ Jurupa Ave., Bloomington

SUSPECT(S): Antonio Membribes, 47 years of age, transient.

VICTIM(S): People of California

SUMMARY: On October 19, 2014, at about 11:30pm, a sheriff's deputy of the Fontana Station observed a 2008 Scion displaying paper plates and traveling at a high rate of speed in the Bloomington area. The deputy attempted to stop the Scion for traffic violations but the vehicle accelerated and failed to yield. A vehicle pursuit was initiated and continued into the City of Riverside as the driver drove at a high rate of speed and ignored posted traffic signals. Riverside Police officers assisted as the pursuit terminated in Riverside and the driver was taken into custody. The driver was identified as Antonio Membribes.

Through further investigation, the Scion was discovered to have been reported stolen out of Rancho Cucamonga in September. Investigators recovered a stun gun, duct tape, and air soft guns from the vehicle.

Membribes was booked into the West Valley Detention Center for 2800.2 Felony Evading and PC 496 Possession of Stolen Vehicle. Membribes was found to be on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) for possession of controlled substance and possession of stolen property as a result of California Assembly Bill 109.

As part of Governor Jerry Brown's Realignment Plan, or Assembly Bill 109, to comply with a U.S. Supreme Court decision requiring the state to lower its prison population by 30,000; offenders with non-violent, non-sexual and non-serious convictions will serve reduced sentences in county jails and be placed on local supervision through county Probation.
