Student Activity Center Convenience Store Burglar Apprehended

In the early morning hours of Friday, October 10, 2014, the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) responded to the convenience store within the Student Activities Center, located at 613 George Street, on the College Avenue Campus (New Brunswick) for a reported burglary. The department’s investigation revealed that the suspect gained entry into the convenience store by forcing his way through the front door. A suspect, who is unaffiliated with Rutgers University, was quickly identified through a review of use of closed circuit television (CCTV) augmented by proven investigatory techniques and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

In addition, a Crime Alert was disseminated to members of the community in accordance with the University’s Commitment to providing campus-area crime information in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act 20 U.S.C. §1092(f), or the Clery Act as it is commonly known

On Saturday, October 11, 2014; Rutgers Police Officer Carlos Correa along with New Brunswick Police Officer Kevin Hendricks were assigned to the Neighborhood Patrol Team (NPT) and were on a foot patrol of the East Avenue Corridor when they encountered an individual who they recognized as the suspect in this incident. After a brief struggle MARC A. FOXHALL of the Franklin Park section of South Brunswick Township, who is unaffiliated with Rutgers University, was taken into custody by Officer Carlos Correa of the Rutgers Police Department. FOXHALL has been charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Resisting Arrest and Obstruction of Justice in connection with these incidents, and is currently lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Chief of University Police Kenneth B. Cop credits the quick identification and apprehension as the result of “good police work coupled with the efficient use of technology and the positive collaboration with the New Brunswick City Police Department.”

The Rutgers Police Department thanks those members of the community who assisted in the identification and apprehension of FOXHALL and reminds community members that their role in crime prevention cannot be understated.

The Rutgers University Police Department reminds community members that they can reduce the chances of being a crime victim by taking reasonable precautions, including:
Secure all work spaces when not in use;
Remain alert and aware of people and circumstances around you;
Do not prop open exterior doors;
Immediately report suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
