Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office provides additional information on the stabbing in Petaluma
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is providing the following updated information regarding the stabbing that occurred on Marshall Avenue in Petaluma in the afternoon of Friday October 17, 2014.
The deceased is identified as Thomas Edward Judkins, 36 years old, from Essex Junction, Vermont.
It is not known to the investigators yet how long he had resided in Sonoma County. From the preliminary investigation, Judkins died at the scene with multiple stab wounds. It is unknown if the injuries were self-inflicted or if he died from some other cause or contributing factors. The autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
Judkins is the sole suspect who attempted to murder the victim. The weapon, a knife, was recovered at the scene. There is no information about a motive or what might have provoked the violence.
Judkins lived at the residence on Marshall Avenue with the victim and the victim’s child. The child was not present at the time of the attack.
The victim’s name and other identifying information is not being released, pursuant to privacy protections afforded to victims of certain crimes. She remains in the hospital recovering from extensive injuries suffered in the attack. Her child is now in the care of family members.
