Sonoma County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal stabbing in Petaluma.
On October 17, 2014, at 3:20 PM, a passing bicyclist called 911 after seeing a man and a woman engaged in a physical fight on Marshall Lane, in the unincorporated area of Petaluma. They were described as near a vehicle in the front yard of a house. The woman was screaming.
Paramedics and Deputies were dispatched. The first Deputy on scene discovered a man and a woman on the ground. Both had suffered stab wounds.
The woman was rushed to the hospital for multiple stab wounds. Her condition is unknown at this hour.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity remains withheld until next of kin is notified.
There is no information available now about the relationship between the man and the woman.
There was initial concern regarding a child, since there was a child safety seat inside a nearby vehicle. That child was found and is uninjured.
Detectives from the Sonoma County Sherriff’s Office were called and assumed the investigation. There were witnesses to the incident and they are currently being interviewed by Detectives.
The roadway was closed at Skillman Lane during the investigation. The Sheriff’s Office appreciates the public’s cooperation in taking alternate routes until the situation is resolved.
The case is actively being investigated by Detectives from the several Investigations Units of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.
