Advisory

Headquarters-Citizens are asked to be aware of telephone scam involving persons posing as deputies.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department would like to warn the citizens of the county of current telephone scams. Citizens have reported reported telephone calls from alledged law enforcement officers requesting money. The caller will tell the unsuspecting victim he/she has a warrant for their arrest for a failure to appear for jury duty. If the victim does not pay an undisclosed amount of money, deputies will arrest them. They are instructed to provide a money order, wire transfer, or gift card to pay the fine.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department does not call citizens on the phone to request money to pay for fines nor will we accept money for fines at your home. If you receive a phone call of this nature, verify the caller is a law enforcment officer by contacting the agency directly. Do not use any phone number the caller provides. Call your local law enforcement agency to inquire about the call and to report the incident.

Citizens are encouraged to avoid providing personal information to anyone over the phone including but not limited to bank account numbers, personal identification numbers (P.I.N.), social security numbers, or passwords.

If you have sent money or feel you have been the victim of a crime, please call your local San Bernardino County Sheriff Station to file a report.
