DATE/TIME: 10/15/14 at approximately 8:49 am

INCIDENT: Distraught Subject

LOCATION: Vineyard Ave and Foothill Blvd. Rancho Cucamonga

SUMMARY:

On Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at approximately 8:49 a.m., sheriff’s dispatch received a call from the Crisis Hotline stating they had a distraught subject on the phone. The subject told the Crisis Hotline he was locked in his vehicle with a knife to his throat. He stated he was in the parking lot at the corner of Vineyard Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in a white vehicle. Deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department arrived on scene and located the male subject in his vehicle with a small pocket knife at his throat. Deputies spoke to the subject through a small opening in the passenger window and tried to convince him to exit his vehicle. His mother, sister, and best friend arrived and tried to speak to him but he refused. Chaplains from the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department were called to assist and he refused to speak with them.

After an extensive two hour standoff, deputies entered the vehicle and subdued the subject before he was able to stab himself with the knife. The subject was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his superficial wounds and placed on a 72 hour hold to evaluate his mental status.
