Press Release: Man Arrested on Animal Cruelty Charges

ACCUSED: Aleksandr Bavykin age 30 Ocean, NJ
NARRATIVE:
On 10/11/14 at approximately 5:26 pm, Officer John Hanna responded to the area of Oak Mews Court after a resident called to report observing deceased squirrels and raccoons behind the building.
An investigation by Detective Michael Melody and Conservation Officer Sean McManus revealed that a resident living on Oak Mews Court, Aleksandr Bavykin, was trapping small animals with the use of illegal leg hold traps. Once the animals were caught, Mr. Bavykin would butcher, cook and consume the animals he caught leaving the remains behind.
Mr. Bavykin was charged by Detective Melody with one count of animal cruelty. He was additionally charged by Conservation Officer McManus with illegal possession of a leg hold trap, illegal use of a leg hold trap, hunting out of season and hunting without a license. Bavykin was release on complaint summonses and will appear at a future court hearing.
