Sachse E-Watch member,
Because we put out an E-Watch on the possibility of a police impersonator incident in Sachse, there have been some questions about what to do if you are stopped.
If you have any doubts that the person or vehicle stopping you is a legitimate police person, it is acceptable to drive to a public place. The important part is to dial 911 on your cell phone and tell the dispatcher where you are and what you are doing. They may be able to confirm that it actually is an officer stopping you or direct you to a specific location. If you call 911, follow their directions.
If you do not have a phone, wave to the officer to follow you and drive, at a normal speed, to a public, well lighted location. If you are still unsure, do not exit your vehicle but tell the officer, through the closed window, that you wish to see a supervisor or another officer before you feel safe lowering your window. I know of no instance where there were two vehicles used in an impersonator event, so a second vehicle showing up is a very positive sign.
The incident in Sachse was not reported as an impersonator event, but rather as a complaint on the officer's attitude and actions. We have been working to locate what agency might have had an officer make this stop, but have been unable to do so yet. That is why we have listed it as a possible impersonator event. There are a large number of local/state/federal agencies that could have made this stop and simply not responded to our regional broadcast
