On October 14, 2014 at approximately 0800 hours, an alert citizen near Sinsheimer Elementary School noticed a suspicious male walking in front of the school. The citizen recognized the subject as Robert Menendez who is a PC 290, registered sex offender. This citizen printed a photo of Menendez on the Megan’s Law Website and confirmed the subject was in fact Menendez. The San Luis Obispo Police Department and State Parole Office were notified of Menendez’s whereabouts. He was last seen in the area of Augusta and Laurel Lane.
On October 13, 2014 Menendez failed to show up for his scheduled parole meeting in violation of his parole agreement. Detectives with the San Luis Obispo Police Department assisted Parole Agents in searching for Menendez. At approximately 2:30 pm Menendez was located in an apartment in the 1100 block of Laurel Lane and was taken into custody for a parole violation without incident. He was later booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on a Parole Hole.
There are no allegations that Menendez committed any criminal violations at or nearby Sinsheimer Elementary School on October 14, 2014. He was simply observed by an alert citizen who recognized him from the Megan’s Law Website.
