Several Injured in I-65 Bus Crash

Several Injured in I-65 Bus Crash

Johnson Co. IN,- Several passengers of a double decker tour bus traveling NB on I-65 early this morning at approximately 4:31 a.m. were injured after the bus overturned in the median.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Logan Thompson, 22, of Columbus, IN was operating a 2003 Saturn passenger car NB on I-65 at the 98 mm. Thompson, due to driver inattention, went off the roadway into the median and struck the cable barriers. The car came back onto I-65 NB and came to rest facing east with the rear of the car in the right lane.

A witness stopped to check on the occupant and observed a NB Megabus double decker tour bus, driven by Randall Flowers, 37, of Illinois; strike the rear of the passenger car with the front of the bus. The crash sent the passenger car into the ditch on the east side of I-65. The bus went into the median, struck the cable barriers and overturned.

Seven people were transported to Eskenazi Health with the most serious injury being a possible broken arm. Those transported to Eskenazi Health are as follows:

2. Hong Thu Le, 20, of Tennessee
3. Valerie, 41, of Illinois
4. Lennel S. Sorrels, 33, of Illinois
5. Dina Allen, 43, of Illinois
6. Tatianna Johnson, 19, of Illinois
7. Mashour Hamad M. Alqahtan, 30, no town listed

Seven people, including Thompson, were transported to Methodist Hospital. All were treated for complainant of pain, contusions, and small cuts from broken glass.

3. Melvan Beamer, 29, of Minnesota
4. Stacy Melson, 46, 0f Kentucky
5. Mattie Johnson, no age listed, of Illinois
6. Shanice Joyner, 19, of Illinois
7. Krystal Akons, 44, of Illinois


Four people were transported to Johnson County Memorial Hospital and treated for complaint of pain, contusions and small cuts from broken glass.

1. Manu Misra, 30, of Illinois
2. Vanessa Akons, 49, of Illinois
3. Andre Lindsey, 25, of Illinois
4. Angela Mithell, 49, of Illinois

Thirty five people were transported to St. Francis Hospital by another Megabus for observation. They did not report any injuries.

The Megabus was transported to Hix Wrecker in Indianapolis where the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division performed a North America Standard Level 1 Post Crash Passenger Vehicle Inspection. No pre- existing mechanical issues were found during the inspection.

This is an ongoing investigation and will take some time to complete. Once the investigation is completed, the information will be forwarded to the Johnson County Prosecutors Office for review.
