Corrected Information on Teen Killed in Grant County Crash
Grant County – Last night at approximately 10:00 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police responded to a single vehicle crash near 8300 east and Grant County Road 200 North, which killed a Poneto, IN teen.
The preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Weston Shanks revealed that Luke Boughman, 19, Poneto, IN, was driving a 1992 Isuzu Rodeo eastbound on Grant County Road 200 North. Near 8300 east, the Isuzu traveled off the south side of the road and into a ditch, striking a utility pole. The Isuzu then rolled at least once, coming to rest upright in a field.
Boughman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the Isuzu. He was pronounced dead at the crash scene by Grant County Coroner Stephen Dorsey. Kelsea Trosper, 17, Poneto, IN, a passenger in the Isuzu, was transported to Marion General Hospital with a minor arm injury. She was wearing a seat belt which Trooper Shanks believes prevented her from suffering more serious injuries.
A contributing factor in this crash appears to be driver inattention. Boughman was allegedly arguing with Trosper prior to crashing.
The crash is still under investigation.
