Amarillo Crime Stoppers Police Coordinator and several volunteer board members attended the 26th Annual Texas Crime Stoppers conference in Beaumont, Texas. The conference is necessary training to retain official state certification as a Crime Stoppers program. During the conference there is also an awards ceremony which was held on Thursday October 9, 2014. During the ceremony, Amarillo Crime Stoppers, Inc received an award from the OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR Texas Crime Stoppers Council. Amarillo Crime Stoppers is comprised of diverse, active and dedicated community representatives. Amarillo Crime Stoppers provides a method for local law enforcement to receive information on crimes. These efforts increase tips, which in turn increase arrests in our community. |Amarillo Crime Stoppers program began in 1979 from the efforts of our City Commission and the Amarillo Police Department. Our program now operates as an independent 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization. The concept has developed into a combination of efforts by local media, businesses, civic and social clubs, law enforcement agencies, and the public. Donations of airtime, newspaper space, and reward monies have established Amarillo Crime Stoppers as an effective tool to fight crime in the area. We currently have 19 board members who are all volunteers. Our board currently is open to prospective new like-minded citizens with clean criminal backgrounds. Citizens interested in helping to improve our community by participating in our program should contact any board member you may know or our Police Coordinator, Cpl. Slover at (806)374-4400 or by email at [email protected].
