14A49 Preventable Crime Trends: #MarVista#DelRey

BASIC CAR 14A49: Senior Lead Officer Marcela Garcia

PREVENTABLE CRIME TRENDS: Specific trend are residential burglaries. Year to Date up 35.8%. 19 more residential burglaries this year compared to last year at this time. Target locations are single family residences.

MODUS OPERANDI: Suspects are in search of communities in which residents do not lock their windows or doors, and homes that are easily accessible through lack of security measures.

ALERT METHODS UTILIZED: Community members are kept abreast of specific trends through emails, Neighborhood Watch Meetings, Flyer distribution in the affected areas, and telephone calls to members of Neighborhood Watch group that do not have access to email or social media.

SAFETY TIPS: It is important for community members to always lock and secure all their windows and doors. In addition is it is important for community members to uses additional security measures to prevent from being victimized such as security alarms, surveillance cameras, beware of dogs signs, locked side gates, and trimmed over sized brush that is covering the view from the front of the house.
