Putnamville Troopers and Cloverdale Students Engage in Dodgeball Celebration

Putnam County—This afternoon, Putnamville Troopers and Cloverdale Middle School Students and Staff engaged in a friendly dodgeball competition to celebrate their recent ISTEP success. The event organizer and “referee” was Cloverdale Middle School Assistant Principal Cathy Ames. The Indiana State Police team was organized by Trooper Mike Wood.

Earlier in the year, a challenge was presented to the middle school students, should they raise their ISTEP scores from C+ to an A, the staff would allow a dodgeball challenge against troopers from the Putnamville Post. The students responded by achieving an ISTEP score rating of “A”. All of this is in line with the school’s positive behavior program called C.H.O.I.C.E., Clovers showing Honesty, Ownership, Integrity, Citizenship, and Effort.

As part of the celebration, at total of forty students from grades five, six, seven, and eight were chosen through a lottery system to participate. After a valiant effort from both teams, the students prevailed and won over the troopers. The teams were cheered on by the middle school student body, cheerleaders, and band.

“The faculty and staff at Cloverdale Middle School feel strongly about having the positive presence of our local State Police troopers in our schools and we loved their participation in today’s event. The staff constantly stresses the importance of good decisions and making correct choices and we are so happy that these troopers give our students those positive examples daily”, commented Cloverdale Assistant Principal Cathy Ames.

Putnamville troopers participating were Brent Robinson, Adam Edwards, B.J. Patterson, Mike Wood, Matt Ames, Cory Robinson, Don Curtis, Michael Featherling, and Joe Dravigne.

ISTEP is Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress.

Not all forty students were available for the group picture.
