Crash Sends One to Hospital

Pershing – Shortly after 7 a.m. troopers were called to 310 Main St. in Pershing, just east of Cambridge City, for the report of a Ford Mustang on its side and the driver trapped inside. Trooper Brandon Steffee arrived to find the car on the sidewalk on the south side of the road on its passenger side with the top against a tree.

The driver, Jeremy T. Belew, age 32, of Covington, Kentucky, had to be extricated from the car by the Cambridge City Fire Department. He was transported by Dublin EMS to Reid Hospital with a complaint of pain, with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation is that the Mustang was entering Pershing west bound on US 40 from the east when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle in a double yellow line no passing zone. The Mustang continued left of center, and for an unknown reason, left the south side of the roadway driving onto the sidewalk.

The car continued west down the sidewalk for several hundred feet, where it struck a tree, a porch, a fence then a second tree before coming to rest on its side. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Cambridge City Police Department, the Cambridge City Fire Department and Dublin EMS.
