Two Grant County Men Arrested for Burglary and Theft

Grant County – Recently, a year and a half criminal investigation by Indiana State Police Detective Brent Ingram and officers from the Gas City Police Department resulted in the arrests of two Grant County men to face felony charges for burglary and theft.

On March 16, 2013, at approximately 5:39 a.m., Ashley Rheam reported to police that her Gas City home at 107 East North A Street, had been burglarized. Approximately five hours later, Rheam’s body was found in the home by her roommate. Rheam had been shot to death. Early in Rheam’s murder investigation, officers discovered evidence that indicated the burglary and Rheam’s death were not connected. Two men are currently serving prison time for Rheam’s murder and auxiliary crimes connected to it.

Despite Rheam’s death, officers continued to investigate the reported burglary of her residence. During the investigation, probable cause was developed for Grant Circuit Court arrest warrants to be issued for Jonathan Howard, 26, Fairmont, IN, and Kyle Warner, 25, Marion, IN. The warrants alleged felony counts of theft and burglary for each man. They were both arrested Friday and incarcerated in the Grant County Jail. There was no connection found between Rheam’s murder and the burglary of her residence.

Detective Ingram was also assisted in this investigation by officers from the Marion Police Department and the Indiana State Police Regional Laboratory in Ft. Wayne.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law
