Investigation shows there was no drive-by shooting in Old Fort last week; victim had stab wound
Detectives with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office say there was no drive-by shooting in Old Fort, as reported by a Marion man on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. that day, David Martin Willis, 45, of Hankins Road, was located in his vehicle in a driveway off of U.S. 70 West. He was bleeding from his upper left leg.
Willis told sheriff’s deputies that, while on Ebenezer Road in Old Fort, a man drove by Willis’ SUV in a gray Mitsubishi Eclipse and shot him.
Willis was taken to Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville for treatment of his leg injury.
A subsequent investigation has revealed some answers.
“There is no evidence of a drive-by shooting,” said Capt. Shanon Smith. “The victim was stabbed, not shot. We are still trying to determine the circumstances that led up to that, but we are not actively looking for anybody we feel is responsible.”
Smith added that a gray Mitsubishi Eclipse had no involvement in this incident.
