Registered sex offender faces multiple charges after allegedly inviting teens into home and giving them alcohol

Detective Paul Alkire of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged David Eugene Fulbright, 38, of Violet Drive in Old Fort, with one felony count of a sex offender registry violation, one felony count of childcare in a sex offender’s home, five misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and five misdemeanor counts of giving fortified wine, liquor or a mixed beverage to a person under 21.
Fulbright is currently incarcerated in the Buncombe County jail, charged with a felony sex offender registry violation there as well. He will be served with McDowell’s charges once he is released from Buncombe.
Fulbright was a registered sex offender living in Buncombe County. On Tuesday, Sept. 30, Alkire received information that Fulbright was living in Old Fort. Further investigation revealed that he had allegedly been residing at 163 Violet Drive for a few weeks, had not changed his address with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office and had not notified the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office that he was in the county. Both of those are violations of the state’s sex offender registry rules.
Alkire said he also learned that Fulbright was allegedly allowing multiple juvenile girls, ages 12 to 15, into his home and was providing them with alcohol.
Fulbright was convicted in Henderson County in September 2010 of taking indecent liberties with a child. He was sentenced to two years and six months in prison.
To investigators’ knowledge, there was no sexual contact with the teens he recently invited into his house. However, under state law, the convicted sex offender is banned from supervising underage children.
