Indiana State Police K-9 Thor Retires

Lowell-Trooper Ricky Rayner lost a partner but gained a lifelong companion when his K-9 partner “Thor” officially retired.

Thor and Rayner completed a three month K-9 school at the Allen County Sheriff’s Department under the direction of Master Trainer Bob Compton in July 2010. Thor was originally assigned to a different trainer before he was reassigned to Trooper Rayner in 2010. At the completion of K-9 school he was an International Police Work Dog Association dual purpose certified; drugs, apprehension, tracking, evidence locating and handler protection.

After graduation Thor and Rayner were assigned to the Lowell District patrolling primarily in northern Lake County.

Thor’s age is not known but is estimated around twelve years.
