Michigan City Man Injured in Crash
Hammond, Lake County-An early morning crash, this Sunday, October 05, 2014, sent a Michigan City man to the hospital with internal injuries.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Gary Runde revealed that at approximately 5:28 a.m., a black Dodge Durango, driven by Darren Johnson, 23 of Michigan City, was east bound on I-80 near Indianapolis Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he rear ended a semi that was in the middle lane. The Durango came to rest in the left lane and the Kenworth semi pulling a trailer owned by Canada Incorporated out of Brampton, Ontario came to rest on the outer shoulder.
The Kenworth’s driver, Mumbarak Sayed, 54 of Brampton, Ontario walked back to check on Johnson and called 911. The Durango sustained heavy front end damage and the semi’s trailer had damage to its DOT bumper.
Johnson was taken and admitted into Munster Community Hospital with internal injuries. Further investigation revealed Johnson had a BAC of .19%. Charges will be filed at the Lake County Prosecutor’s office.
Sayed was not injured.
