Jefferson County: Yesterday afternoon a two vehicle crash claimed the life of a Kansas man and injured six others. According to Trooper Matt Holley, at approximately 3:50 p.m. a 2013 Ford Focus driven by 23 year old Jordan T. Griffin of Versailles was northbound on U.S. 421 near the Jefferson Proving Ground main entrance. A 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by 37 year old Charles L. McRoberts, Jr. also of Versailles was southbound on U.S. 421 when the Ford Focus crossed the centerline and struck the pickup truck head on. A 21 year old male passenger in the Ford Focus from Arkansas City, Kansas was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers and four passengers in the Dodge Ram, 11 year old Bailey McRoberts, 11 year old Tyler Smith, 11 year old Hogan Jackson, and two year old Pacy McRoberts were transported to Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. Bailey McRoberts, Tyler Smith and Hogan Jackson were later air lifted to University Hospital in Louisville for more serious injuries. Griffin suffered minor lacerations and bruising and Charles McRoberts, Jr. suffered head injuries. Blood alcohol testing indicated Griffin to have a BAC of .41 percent and is facing numerous charges as a result of his impaired driving condition. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of relatives. The crash remains under investigation. Tpr. Holley was assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
