Possible Scam: Several Culver residents have received phone calls stating they are late on the paying their property taxes, a lien will be placed on their property and the police are on the way with a warrant for their arrest. Some are automated calls. Also they are leaving messages on answering machines with a number to call back.
Anyone receiving a such a call should hang up immediately and do not give the caller any information or agree to pay them. If you are behind in your taxes, Marshall County does not accept payment over the phone and we will send you a letter to let you know you are delinquent.
Contact the Marshall County Treasures office at 574-935-8520 Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm, if you are unsure of the status of your taxes.
If you have submitted payment over the phone to someone or feel you have been caught up in the scam, contact your bank or credit card company immediately to stop payment and then contact your local police department. The Marshall County Sheriff's office can be reached at 574-936-3187.
