There have been several property thefts on the SRJC Main Campus over the past week. The SRJC District Police Department is asking the SRJC community to always keep a close and watchful eye on their personal belongings. A common crime which occurs on campus is the theft of backpacks, cell phones, tablets, laptops, and purses when the owner leaves them unattended.
Specifically, several students have had their cell phones stolen from unattended backpacks while at Bailey Field. The students placed their backpacks near the bleachers by the west entrance and then went to exercise or participate in a SRJC class. Afterwards, they returned to find their cell phones were taken.
Additionally, this past weekend a student had items stolen from their unoccupied personal vehicle while it was parked at the SRJC Culinary Café parking lot. Unfortunately, the student had left the sunroof open and it is believed this is how the thief gained access to the interior. The majority of criminals who commit this type of crime are looking for an easy opportunity to steal. Please help by always locking your vehicle doors and ensuring all windows are fully closed. Do not keep valuables in your car. However, if you must, keep them in the trunk where they are out of sight. If you happen to see someone loitering around your vehicle as you approach it, STOP!, turn around, walk away, CALL THE POLICE, and watch them from a distance.
