Indiana State Police Investigate Farming Accident
Ripley County: Yesterday afternoon Indiana State Police were called to 4999 West C.R. 600S near Holton in reference to a farming accident that resulted in serious injury. According to Master Trooper Ben Bastin, at about 3:50 p.m. 71 year old Robert A. Simmons of that address was working on his farm tractor changing a battery. When he attempted to start the tractor it began to roll running over Simmons then dragging him approximately 50 feet. Simmons was airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville with multiple lacerations and possible internal injuries.
M/Tpr. Bastin was assisted at the scene by other troopers, Rescue 69, New Marion Fire Department, and Dove Flight Air Ambulance. The incident remains under investigation.
