9/27/14, press release: DUI/Leaving the Scene of an Accident

On 09/27/2014 at approximately 0324 hours Burlington Police Officers observed a collision between a Dodge truck emerging from the municipal parking lot located on the northeast corner of Main Street and South Winooski Avenue and a bicyclist.

As the truck pulled into the street, officers saw a bicyclist who was westbound. The truck then collided with the bicyclist. As the bicyclist came to rest on Main St., the Dodge truck was observed to accelerate rapidly as it began to leave the scene of the accident eastbound on Main Street. Officers immediately caught up with the truck and stopped it near the intersection of South Union St.

The operator was identified as Brenden S. Hoag . Hoag was processed for DUI and received a citation for both DUI and Leaving the scene of an accident.

The bicyclist was verbally identified as Anthony Bruessard. Bruessard was evaluated on scene by the Burlington Fire Department and transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care. Bruessard suffered minor injuries in the crash. Bruessard was wearing a black shirt and black shorts and the brakes on his bicycle were broken and inoperable prior to the accident occurring. Bruessard was issued tickets related to the condition/operation of the bike.
