On 9/28/2014 at 1020 hrs, an inmate at the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facilty alerted Correctional Deputies that he had found a fellow inmate hanging in his cell.

Correctional Deputies responded to the inmates cell and began life saving measures. Correctional Deputies were able to cut the inmate down and administer first aid as Fire and Ambulance were called to respond. Neither Correctional Deputies or responding medical personnel were able to save the inmates life and he was pronounced deceased at 1043 hrs.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office Violent Crimes Unit and the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office responded to the jail to conduct an investigation into this incident. At this point in the investigation all indications are that the inmate committed suicide by hanging himself, however, there will be an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The inmate’s name is being withheld at this time because next of kin have not been notified.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office has not had a suicide committed in its jails since 4/20/2013 when an inmate took his own life by self inflicted lacerations to his wrists.
