Murder Suspect Found at I-65 Rest Park

Boone County-At approximately 8:40 this morning, a trooper from the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post was following up on information about an alleged murder suspect from Hammond, IN who was purportedly travelling south on I-65 in the Lafayette area.

Master Trooper Matt Voorhees was checking I-65 southbound when he pulled into the southbound rest park at the 149 mile marker (that is three miles north of the SR 47 exit at the 146 mm) and located a silver Chevrolet Lumina that matched the suspect’s vehicle. After verifying the description of the vehicle the suspect Jimmie Earl Jacobs Jr. 38 from Hammond was driving, Trooper Voorhees waited for assistance to arrive. After units from Boone and Clinton County Sheriff’s Departments and troops from the Lafayette Post arrived on the scene, the suspect, Jacobs, was taken into custody without further incident. Hammond Police Department was notified and was in route to take the suspect into custody and process the vehicle and crime area.

Any questions pertaining to the murder and the suspect, Jacobs, should contact the Hammond Police Department. Any questions on the capture of the suspect, contact Sergeant Kim Riley at information listed on the release.

I do not have a picture of the suspect.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
