DEARBORN POLICE ENCOURAGE RESIDENTS TO DISPOSE OF UNWANTED MEDICATIONS SAFELY DURING THE “DRUG TAKE BACK PROGRAM” ON 9/27/14 from 10am-2pm

DEARBORN POLICE ENCOURAGE RESIDENTS TO DISPOSE OF UNWANTED MEDICATIONS SAFELY DURING THE “DRUG TAKE BACK PROGRAM” ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2014 FROM 10AM-2PM AT THE DEARBORN POLICE DEPARTMENT.

Dearborn, MI –
On Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 10:00 AM. to 2:00 PM., the Dearborn Police Department will be accepting pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications for destruction (NO LIQUIDS).
The department will be joining other local and state law enforcement agencies across the country and partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to coordinate this one-day collaborative effort to remove potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation’s homes.
This national take-back initiative will provide a unified opportunity for the public to surrender pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction.
The 2008 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) estimates there are 6.2 million current non-medical users of psychotherapeutic drugs in the United States. The NSDUH survey further indicates there are more Americans abusing psychotherapeutics than the number of cocaine, heroin, and hallucinogen abusers combined.
Expired, unused, or unwanted controlled substances in our homes are a potential source of supply that fuel this abuse and are an unacceptable risk to the public’s health and safety.
Chief Haddad stated “it is important to ensure that controlled substances are disposed of properly to prevent accidental ingestion by children or abuse by others”.
During the event, collection boxes will be provided by the DEA. Destruction of the materials will be accomplished in accordance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations. Residents of any city can use the collection boxes at the Dearborn Police Department.
Residents may bring any unwanted medications to the Dearborn Police Department (16099 Michigan Ave.) on Saturday, September 27, 2014 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM for free disposal.
