Ocean Township has experienced incidents where an individual (male or female) has randomly knocked on doors of homes and stating to the person who answers that they are in looking for their lost dog. This a common distraction technique used by burglary suspects.

Other statements by the burglary suspects may also include: " I have broken down and I need help" " I am looking for a lost child" or " I work for a utility company” etc. Do not let any unfamiliar persons in your home and do not offer to help. This is a ploy to commit a house burglary. Report all suspicious, incidents, persons or vehicles to the Ocean Township Police immediately. Note the description of the individual(s) and the type, color and make of any vehicles that may be involved.
