Prescription Drug Drop Off Program

Brighton Police are participating in the national Prescription Drug Take Back initiative on Saturday, September 27th from 10am - 2pm.

While the Brighton Police Department accepts prescription drugs for disposal through our Big Red Barrel program at all times, this national event is intended to remind people of the importance of safe disposal of prescription medications.

Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines – flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash – pose potential safety and health hazards.

Please take advantage of our prescription drug “Take Back” on Saturday, September 27th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Brighton Police Department, 440 S. Third Street. Help prevent misuse or damage to the environment from improper disposal of expired, unused, or unwanted pills. Any container is acceptable (pill bottles, plastic bags, etc.). This service is free and anonymous, just drop and go.
