Santa Barbara County CERT Corps Conducting 4th Annual Exercise This Saturday

This Saturday, September 27, 2014, from 10am to 3:30pm, the Santa Barbara County CERT Corps will be conducting its 4th Annual Exercise at the Lompoc Public Safety Training Facility located at 1 Hancock Drive (just west of Harris Grade Road on Hwy 1.)

CERTs from around Santa Barbara County are invited to participate in this fun, educational and engaging event! The goal is for CERT graduates to practice skills they have learned, challenge themselves to learn new skills, and to work alongside other dedicated CERTs.

During the exercise CERTs will participate in realistic scenarios that will enable them to:
• Practice using proper light search and rescue techniques
• Emphasizing the importance of effective communication between teams and with outside fire agencies
• Develop an effective medical and triage organization.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is designed to help communities prepare for effective disaster response through training and planning. CERT training prepares individuals to serve as a crucial resource immediately following a disaster. Basic CERT training covers topics related to disaster preparedness, light search and rescue, medical operations, fire suppression, disaster psychology and more.

For questions regarding this exercise, please contact Roy Dugger, Emergency Services Coordinator with the City of Santa Maria, at (805) 925-0951 ext. 334 or via email at [email protected]
