Crash Sends One to Hospital
Tippecanoe County-Today at approximately 3:21 p.m. on I-65 southbound near the 166.5 mile marker (that is 1.5 miles south of the SR 38 exit), Troopers from the Indiana State Police at Lafayette responded to a one vehicle crash that sent the driver to the hospital.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Sean Schaefer has revealed that a white 2012 Nissan Ultima was in the left lane when the vehicle drove off the left side of the interstate. The driver, Pierre D. Evans, 23 of Hinesville, GA, over corrected and went back across both southbound lanes of traffic. The Nissan went down the right side ditch and struck a tree in the outer fence of the highway and spun around and came to rest. Evans was transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette with head trauma. It is unknown at this time if seatbelt was in use at the time of the crash. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear at this time to be a contributing factor. The investigation is continuing.
Assisting at the scene were Troopers from the Lafayette Post, Sheffield Fire Department and Tippecanoe County EMS.
