The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Nextdoor.com Partner to Create Virtual Neighborhood Watch Programs Online
Nextdoor is a tool for the Sheriff's Department to effectively share information on crime prevention and safety, public events, and emergency notifications. Nextdoor customers can expect to receive local crime and safety updates from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station on Nextdoor. According to Nextdoor's Justine Fenwick, Nextdoor.com customers can be assured that their customer's website and information remains private. Sheriff's personnel will not be able to see any of the content on the neighborhood's website, except for the direct replies to post from the LASD.
Lieutenant Seetoo said of the launch, "This is another great opportunity to engage our citizens on a local level here at Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's station. I want to make sure people understand that they can talk to us online, but we still need emergency notifications via 9-1-1, as this will not be monitored 24/7."
