Serious Personal Injury Crash Closes Interstate #65 for over Two Hours

Scott County-Today at approximately 2:45 pm, a 2010 International semi-tractor and trailer hauling empty skids was travelling north on Interstate #65 slowing for traffic around the 25 Mile Marker, when the driver, Sergio Arriola, 33, of Chicago, IL, stated he felt a vehicle ram into the rear of the trailer he was pulling. The vehicle that crashed into the semi-tractor and trailer was a white 2005 Ford F-450 being driven by Karl Stephen Moser Jr., 20, from Lanesville, IN.

The preliminary investigation shows Karl Stephen Moser Jr., slammed into the rear of the semi-tractor and trailer for an unknown reason. The impact was so intense the driver of the Ford F-450, Karl Stephen Moser Jr., was trapped inside of his vehicle for over an hour, while the Scottsburg Fire Department and Scott County E.M.S personnel worked to free him. Emergency Personnel had to use wreckers from Goodin’s Wrecker Service in Scottsburg and Julian’s Wrecker Service in Scottsburg to pull the two crashed vehicles apart, so Karl Stephen Moser Jr., could be extricated from his vehicle. Once Karl Stephen Moser Jr. was removed, he was transported by air ambulance to the University of Louisville Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Karl Stephen Moser Jr. was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the semi-tractor and trailer was not injured and was wearing a seat belt.

The crash investigation is continuing with Indiana State Police Crash Scene Reconstructionists assisting in the investigation. The Scott County Sheriff’s Department and the Clark County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.

Interstate #65 North was closed for over two hours while the crash scene was investigated and cleared.
