28th Annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon

For the 28th year in a row, celebrities and spectators gathered in the early morning hours at Zuma Beach in Malibu to participate in the Annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon, presented by Equinox. Participants raise money for the Children's Hospital Los Angeles's Pediatric Cancer Research Program by swimming, biking and running their way to the finish line.

According to nauticamalibutri.com, last year's event raised more than $1.7 million by way of registration fees and donations.  This fundraising event tends to attract celebrities far and wide, but hits close to home for those local to Malibu.  The Children's Hospital Los Angeles is dedicated to curing and preventing childhood cancers, and supporters of this annual triathlon know that the donations are going toward a remarkable cause.

Along with the traditional-distance triathlon (1/2 mile ocean swim, 18 mile bike course, 4 mile run), this weekend's events also consisted of a shortened version triathlon (1.5k swim, 40k bike course, and 10k run), as well as a kids run, Tot Trot, and family games for participants and spectators at the "Fun Zone."  There is also a sand castle building demonstration, yoga on the beach, and healthy-habit clinics.  With more than 5,500 participants each year, this is a day full of energy and good vibes and is a consistently successful event.

So far, the Nautica Malibu Triathlon has helped to raise $1,208,707.  To donate, please visit nauticamalibutri2014.kintera.org.
