Three Semi Crash Closes Interstate

Jackson County: Earlier this afternoon a three semi crash closed I-65 and it remains closed at this time. According to Master Trooper Ben Bastin, at approximately 2:20 p.m. northbound traffic on I-65 near the 43.5 mile marker was backed up and slowing due to a lane restriction near the 45 mile marker. A 2014 Freightliner semi tractor trailer rig driven by 40 year old Jeffrey K. Dickson of Edmonton, KY struck the rear of a 2012 Freightliner semi tractor trailer rig driven by 51 year old Michael D. Flowers of Vine Grove, KY forcing it into the rear of a 2015 Mack tractor trailer rig (UPS semi truck) driven by 70 year old Eddie L. Hayes of Indianapolis. After the collision a fire broke out but was extinguished by police and other emergency personnel arriving on scene. Dickson was trapped inside his vehicle for a short period of time before police managed to free him. Dickson told M/Tpr. Bastin he didn’t notice traffic slowing in front of him until it was too late. Dickson suffered facial lacerations and a laceration to his knee and was transported to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour where he was treated and released. Flowers was also transported to Schneck Medical Center for complaint of pain in his neck and back. He was also treated and released. Hayes was not injured.

Dickson will be cited for Following too Closely and No Seat Belt. Assisting M/Tpr. Bastin were other troopers, Vernon Township Fire Department, and Jackson County EMS. The crash remains under investigation.
