Advisory

HIGH FIRE DANGER THIS WEEK!

The National Weather Service has predicted extremely warm weather this week and with that comes likelihood for fire.

The Arcadia Police Department, in conjunction with the Arcadia Fire Department, wants you to be aware of this fire danger, and encourage you to take an active role by being vigilant. You can keep yourself, your neighbors, and your community safe by adhering to the “See Something, Say Something” campaign.

When extreme heat affects our community, it is important to be aware of the following things:

• The electrical system is operating at a high level, which can cause the following:

    o Transformer fires

    o Power surges

    o Downed power lines

• Large branches tend to break off of mature trees during heat waves.

o The branches can snap power lines and cause fires

• Landscaping & Gardening can cause fires on dry hillsides and vegetation.

The Police & Fire departments ask you to be vigilant in your neighborhoods. If you see a downed power line, hear or see a transformer fire, or see smoke…CALL 9-1-1

The Arcadia Police and Fire departments are providing extra patrols to our foothill neighborhoods and other fire prone areas, to ensure any fire activity could be quickly suppressed.

Yesterday’s small vegetation fire in the Sierra Madre foothills was caused by an electrical transformer that failed and started the fire. This recent example should serve as a reminder that this extreme weather can cause fire anywhere, not just in the foothill areas. So keep an eye on your property and your neighbors'.
