NWS-HURRICANE ODILE UPDATE - FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch beginning Wednesday, 9-17 at 11:00 AM and continuing through Thursday, 9-18 and concluding by 6:00 PM.

Hurricane Odile is currently holding three predicted storm tracts, the most prominent of which taking a direct line (as a Tropical Depression) into the Desert Southwest. This storm, according to the National Weather Service-Tucson as of today, is predicting rain totals from 3" to 5" of rain in Central Arizona. This storm has easily been predicted to be much stronger than that of Tropical Depression Norbert which struck just weeks ago.

Residents in areas prone to flooding activity, please be aware that REGIONAL FIRE and Pinal County Emergency Management Authorities have pre-staged SAND and Sand Bags at Regional Fire & Rescue Station #586 at McCartney Road and Overfield Road for use by the public, free of charge, in an attempt to assist with flooding prevention. Please contact the Fire Station at (520) 723-4680 to arrange a time for sand bag fill and pickup. Immediate assistance can be obtained by calling our Emergency Line Direct at (520) 421-9957.

Please avoid travel during times when rain is heavy and roads are flooded. DO NOT drive through flooded dips and roadways in the area. We have already had one recent fatality from a vehicle passing through a flooded dip in Oracle in recent weeks. Stay up to date on the current forcasts by listening to Weather Radio on the public service band, or you local news station. Thank you.
