Beware of recent telephone scam.
Within the past week, several Sonoma County residents have received phone calls from someone claiming to be a representative of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. The caller states that they are with the “Warrants Division” and request money to be paid to them for bail for an outstanding warrant. The caller requests that the victim send them money by using a “ MoneyPak green Dot card.”
The callers are not representatives of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office serves arrest warrants in person and does not have a “Warrants Division” call center that accepts payments over the phone.
Anyone who receives this type of phone call is advised to hang up and contact their local law enforcement agency.
